How to Write a Paralegal Resume
Law firms want paralegals who can hit the ground running, so they screen resumes for practice-area experience, the research tools you know, and evidence you're accurate under deadline pressure. Show all three clearly and you stand out fast.

Summary: practice area + a caseload result
Paralegal with 5 years supporting litigation attorneys. Skilled in legal research, e-filing, and case management. Managed 40+ active matters with zero missed filings.
List your tools and tasks
- Tools: Westlaw, LexisNexis, Relativity, Clio, case-management software
- Tasks: legal research, e-filing, discovery, document drafting, docketing/calendaring, trial prep
Quantify accuracy and volume
- "Managed a caseload of 40+ active litigation matters with zero missed filings."
- "Drafted pleadings, discovery, and correspondence, cutting attorney review time 25%."
- "Conducted legal research supporting a successful summary-judgment motion."
Certification helps
If you hold a paralegal certification (NALA CP, NFPA), list it — it's a keyword and a credibility signal.
Format for the screen
- Single column, standard headings, real text — no tables or graphics.
- One page for most; two if you have deep litigation experience.
Common mistakes to avoid
- No practice area. Firms filter by litigation, corporate, family, IP — name yours.
- Listing duties without accuracy metrics. "Zero missed filings" is gold.
- Omitting your research tools. Westlaw/LexisNexis are top keywords.
